Whole Hands

Have you noticed that some of our stores and shops have already started making room for the holidays?  In a way, we may think “Christmas is so far away!  They’re crazy to be making room for Christmas merchandise already!”  A part of me agrees… but my heart resonates with the thought, “It’s never too early to be making room for Jesus.  It’s never the wrong time to be making room in my life for others.”

You and I both know that the holidays are going to be here before we know it.  I say we don’t miss a minute of it!  Are you with me?

This year Oaklawn church of God is being God’s Hand Extended to our city in very specific and tangible ways as we focus on providing WHOLE HANDS in our city!

The purpose of WHOLE HANDS is to collect and distribute new, warm gloves for families in need at SHAREFEST Hot Springs 2011 (Saturday, Nov. 5).

It’s important to remember that Jesus cares about whole people and whole families.  He served people’s physical needs, and He served their spiritual needs.  Both are important to Him.  In the same way, we are providing gloves to provide some comfort to the physical bodies of people.  We pray that in that act, they will also see the love of Jesus in us, and hear about Jesus through our words!

The spirit of SHAREFEST is to promote Jesus above all.  None of the participating churches will be promoting individual agendas, only the Kingdom!  We will simply show Hot Springs that those who are following Jesus are working together for the good of the community.  It is our prayer that by this we will make the good news of Jesus both beautiful and believable.

On the day of SHAREFEST Hot Springs 2011 (Nov, 5), we will distribute gloves at the parking garage downtown.  Other churches/organizations will be serving hot deer chili, and distributing socks and blankets at the same location.  After meeting with leaders of ministries that meet the needs of people downtown on a weekly basis, we realize it is very probable we will serve at least 650 people that day!

We would like to distribute a pair of new, warm gloves for each person that day, so we need 650 pairs of gloves in all sizes (for men, women, and children).  Joining WHOLE HANDS is easy!  Purchase warm weather gloves, then return them to our collection box and write down the number of pairs you brought (men’s, women’s or children’s) on the sheet attached to the side of the box.  And plan to help distribute the gloves on Saturday, November 5!
